Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion
For God and Country we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:
to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;
to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism;
to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the great wars;
to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation;
to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;
to make right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth;
to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy;
to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
Frank E. Robinson, 37, son of John Robinson, was the first man from Tipp City to sacrifice his life for his country in World War II. Frank, who was a member of the tank destroyers, was killed in action in the African area November 10, 1941.

|
Sgt. Robinson was inducted into the Army on February 14, 1940 and spent most of his training time in the United States with a tank destroyer battalion at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His first overseas duty was in Ireland. He was then transferred to the African area where he met with his death.
Frank Robinson’s body arrived in Tipp City on June 10, 1948 and was taken directly to our American Legion home. Our Legion members took complete charge of all arrangements for the armed guard which was on duty twenty four hours a day and for the Military funeral which was held on Sunday, June 13, 1948.
Sgt Robinson’s brother was awarded the Purple Heart post-humus. The brother in turn presented this award to the American Legion after the funeral ceremonies. This Purple Heart Award can be viewed upon request at our Legion home.
Our American Legion post took the name of Frank E. Robinson Post no. 586 in January, 1946.
